Dr Sonney Gullu-McPhee
Chartered Clinical Psychologist in Petersfield, Hampshire.
ISST Certified Advanced Schema Therapist
I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and an ISST Certified Advanced Schema Therapist working in Petersfield, Hampshire. I am registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC).
I work with adults (aged 18 and over) with a wide range of presenting problems such as depression, anxiety, fears, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, self-harm, anger, impulsive behaviours and personality disorders. In my work, I follow the best practice guidelines recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).
I have been trained in a number of different therapeutic models and consider myself to be an integrative therapist. The main therapeutic approaches that inform my treatment include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy (ST), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). I also draw skills from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
My diverse clinical training in both assessment and therapeutic approaches allows me to apply interventions flexibly based on your needs. I work collaboratively with you every step of the way from assessment/formulation phase throughout the treatment. I will meet with you for an initial assessment session to discuss your problems, how problems developed over time, and specific symptoms you struggle with. The initial assessment session is an opportunity to assess your needs and formulate a framework for describing and understanding your situation and goals. I may select and utilize a range of assessment tools ranging from a clinical interview, behavioural observations, rating scales, self-report measures and formal psychological assessment depending on the purpose and complexity of the situation. After discussing goals for treatment, I discuss different approaches to therapy and the length of treatment required. The required therapy may range from short-term therapy, which may range from symptom reductions and developing coping skills to longer-term treatment where long-standing problems and issues could be addressed and self-understanding could be increased.
